What are Instagram Highlights and what is the purpose of having them? If you want to know why creating highlights is the perfect formula to attract more dreamy clients and grow your own tribe, then this is for you.

Create Catchy Instagram Highlights using your Phone

In this blog post, you’ll learn why they’re so important and I’ll share with you how easy it is to set up your Instagram Highlights so it attracts more of your soul aligned clients with ease!

What are Instagram Highlights?

These are current stories or archived ones that you can pull from to create unique highlights. They are permanent and don’t disappear unless you delete the highlight.

You can use up to 8 characters for your highlight title and only 4 of them show up when someone looks at your profile.

This is also Real Estate for your business besides Instagram stories.

The best part of this is your NEW followers might be looking for something in Particular instead of scrolling through your posts and they will easily find what they’re looking for on your highlights if you’ve added them already.

It’s important to be strategic about what you include in your highlights and if you want to go even deeper on how to Grow your Instagram with Soul Led Strategies you can check out this blog post I made Here

How can you Use Instagram Highlights though?

This is the easy part. You first have to go to your home page and there will be a little white circle with a plus sign that says “highlight.” Once you have that… make sure that you have the auto-archive ON so every time your stories disappear, your stories are automatically saved for later use.

If you don’t know how to do this, just go to your Instagram profile and click on settings. Then tap where it says Privacy and then Story.

From there turn ON “Save to Archive” when you scroll to the bottom.

The way you view your archive is when you click back to your main feed and then click on the little clock to the top left corner as shown below from my business account @socialsavvico

Quick Tip: If you just turned on the “Saved Archive” then only current stories will show up for you if this is your first time doing that.

Once you’ve all set up with that. All you have to do is pick the different stories you’ve uploaded before and click so the checkmark shows up in blue.

Next, you’ll want to add the cover of that highlight.

Alright, you have two options once you’re here. One is to pick a thumbnail from your stories or

You can upload your own photo!

You’ll see an icon with a little mountain. That’s where you want to click. Look at the image below.

I love creating my own because I can use my branded colors and make them super cohesive. This will keep the overall look of your feed on point too.

Some of the apps I use with my phone are Canva and Over, both are super convenient but it really depends on your personal preferences. Now, I’m not a fan of the Canva app because you can’t use certain fonts. Especially if you use branded ones. It gets a little complicated. I like simplicity and being able to get things done right away, you know what I mean?

The Over app on the other hand is by far my favorite one. If you’ve never heard of OVER… make sure you download this app. They have some of the most beautiful templates and it’s FREE! Yay! If you look below you can see what it looks like and let me just say they have a ton of templates to choose from.

Plus, they add new ones almost weekly. They really do their best to keep it updated with New templates. All ranging from holidays to modern styles and everything in between.

So the way you use it is, first, you click where it says templates and from there you look for IG stories. Those are the ones you’ll be using for your highlights.

From there you want to get creative and use the many different styles they offer you. But don’t get caught up too much in perfection. Simply create and run with what you’ve got… later on if it’s not in alignment you’ll feel it and that’s when you know it’s time to change it.

Once you’re finished click the little square with the arrow to your top right and that will save to your phone so you can upload to your stories or highlights. Whichever you choose.

You know how to create them, so now what?

You’ve got all of the pieces taken care of. Now, let me share with you 7 things you can add to your highlights.

But first, let me just say that when you add by category, events, or even topics this really creates curiosity for your soulmate clients and this keeps them wanting to learn more about you! The following ideas are for any business owner all dependant on each niche.

  1. Are you into Fashion? If so, add outfits for the different seasons. This helps you feature certain products you’re promoting.
  2. Are you a writer? Pick a niche and share some stories around that. It could be as simple as personal development.
  3. If you’re into interior design… You could share the different rooms such as the living room, the dining room or even the kitchen.
  4. This is my Favorite… Do you have any How-to’s you can share with others? This is so powerful and it’s a great way to showcase your skills.
  5. Are you into Coaching? Why not share some Testimonials from the many clients you have? This stuff sells so authentically to others.
  6. What if you’re an influencer? This is a great way to showcase some of the work you’ve done with companies/partners… Any takeovers would be great to share.
  7. Are you promoting a special campaign? It’s great when you can share about certain offers you have going because it’s not good you have to upload every 24 hours, right?

There you have it! There are lots of things you can do for your Highlights. Use them and let your creative juices flow.

Some other recommendations for you:

  • Add no more than 50 stories to each highlight… It gets cluttered and it takes a little while to finish watching.
  • There’s no limit when it comes to creating Highlights. You can add as many as you like. (At least for now!)
  • If you have the swipe up feature any stories that have a link, that swipe up works even if it’s an old story! (I didn’t know this until recently lol)
